“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.” 2 Peter 1:5-9
This is a trap many Christians fall into: we forget how much sin we have been forgiven of, we misjudge just how sinful we actually are, and we underestimate just how Holy God truly is.
If we are not in a constant state of love and gratitude, we are shortsighted, even to the point of blindness.
“I have lost a world of time! Had I but one more year it should be spent in studying David’s psalms and Paul’s epistles. Mind the world less and God more. “ – Claudius Salmasius (on his deathbed)
Though a highly revered scholar of his day, Salmasius died with a stricken conscience.
If you had but one more year, what would you do with it? I doubt many would answer that question with an enthusiastic: READ MY BIBLE MORE!
However, I have been beside the dying and can attest that this is exactly what is regretted.
Mind the world less and God more.
Heed this advice!

“Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 1:10-11
Wow, what a promise:
An entrance WILL BE SUPPLIED for believers ABUNDANTLY into Heaven.
A Christian’s entrance into Heaven is abundantly supplied through the substitutionary atonement of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I cannot get over the truth of this promise and the security it announces.
Jesus has supplied an abundant entrance into Heaven for anyone who calls on His name.
“To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.” Titus 1:15-16
Remember this when you are dealing with unregenerate minds; To them, nothing is sacred.
Don’t be surprised or shocked when the world acts likes the world.
But to us, all things are pure.
“but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” – 1 Tim. 3:15
Note how Paul describes the church to Timothy:
• The house of God;
• The church of the living God;
• The pillar and ground of the truth.

“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” – Judges 21:25
This is the ominous last verse of Judges.
No king. No law. No order. It was the Wild, Wild West with no sheriff in town.
Sound familiar? Today, everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes. However, there is a way that seems right, but leads to death (Prov. 14:12).
Puritan Matthew Henry notes, “Self-deceivers prove self-destroyers. See the vanity of carnal mirth.”
We have a long-suffering King. He is long-suffering, not forever-suffering. Eventually, His patience will run out.
“Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.” Heb. 13:7
The fruit of someone’s life who speaks the word of God will be worthy of remembering and imitating.
That’s the power of the word of God!
“And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” – Luke 11:27-28
This is what happened when someone tried to venerate Mary in front of Jesus.
Jesus pointed rather to the word.
Jesus pointed rather to obedience to that word.
We don’t need any other private words from God or men proclaiming to receive private messages from God.
The Bible is enough.
The Bible is sufficient.
The word is confirmed.
“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place” – 2 Peter 1:19
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her!” – Luke 1:45
The Lord will fulfill His promises. Do you believe that? Blessed you will be if you believe it!
