A Horse is a Vain Hope

“No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.” – Psa. 33:16-17

Only God saves, delivers, and is a real hope.

He fashions their hearts individually

“The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.” – Psa. 33:13-15

God is sovereign over all people of every nation.

Fear and Awe

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” – Psa. 33:8-9

God has no rival or equal. He, alone is worthy of our fear, awe, and praise.

The Creative Word of God in Creation

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.” – Psa. 33:6-7

Something did not come out of nothing. Here is the creative word of God in creation. Only God has this power.

The Goodness of the Lord

“For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.” – Psa.33:4-5

Does your idea of what God is like match up with what the Bible says God is like?

Make Melody To Him With An Instrument

“Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.” -Psa. 33:1-3

Curious to argue for “no instruments” with verses like these.

Thoughts On Psalm 33

”The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” – Psa. 33:10-12

God is sovereign over the nations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Cursed is the nation whose god is NOT the Lord.

“The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.” – Psa. 33:13-15

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.” – Psa. 33:18-19

God watches over, delivers, and keeps those who fear Him and hope in His mercy.

“Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.” – Psa. 33:20-22

God is our help and our shield.

Thoughts On Psalm 32

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.” – Psa. 32:1-2

Sin is forgiven, covered, and not imputed (not counted against).

“When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.” – Psa. 32:3-4

Here’s what happens when we don’t confess sin.

“Everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found;” – Psa. 32:6

Time is running out; pray now.

“You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” – Psa. 32:7

God hides, preserves, and surrounds us with songs.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.” – God (Psa. 32:8-9)

God’s personal engagement. Far too often I am the stubborn mule.

“Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.” – Psa. 32:10

Which will it be sorrows or mercy?

Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” – Psa. 32:11

Be glad, rejoice, and shout for joy all in one verse.

You Who Still the Noise

You who still the noise of the seas, The noise of their waves, And the tumult of the peoples.” -Psa. 65:7

Peace is not the absence of war, but the presence of God.
