The offense of the cross

“And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.” – Gal. 5:11

There is an offense that accompanies the cross.

Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith

“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Heb. 12:2

Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.

We have seen strange things today!

“And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, ‘We have seen strange things today!’” – Luke 5:26

Grace would seem strange to a graceless society.

Everything hinges on Jesus

“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!” – 1 Cor. 15:14-17

Everything hinges on Jesus.

Continuing Christlikeness

“The life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” – 2 Cor. 4:10

Continuing Christlikeness.

Jesus intercedes

“He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” – Heb. 7:25

Jesus is our perfect High Priest.

Grow in Jesus

Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 3:18

This is key to authentic discipleship. God requires non-stop progress in the life of faith.

Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality

“Our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” – 2 Tim. 1:10

The gospel both declares the death and resurrection of Christ, and calls us to share in them.

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

“He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” – Rev. 19:16

Jesus is King of kings.
