October 12, 2019 in Vienna, Austria, Eliud Kipchoge became the first person to run a marathon in under 2 hours. That’s a staggering 4:35 pace for 26.2 miles.
Kipchoge remarked,
“Only the disciplined ones in life are free. If you are undisciplined, you are a slave to your moods and passions.”
His comments reminded me of Paul’s:
“But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.” – Rom. 6:22
Restrictions create more freedom than no restrictions? It seems contradictory, but it is not. You will have true liberty when you are free from the inevitable consequences of ungodly choices.
The Christian life is one of discipline and self- control (2 Tim. 1:7; 2 Pet. 1:5-7; Gal. 5:22-23). The Christian life is one that is truly free (Gal. 5:14-15; Rom. 6:22; 2 Cor. 3:17).
