Holy Week: Tuesday – The Olivet Discourse

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” – Matt. 24:3-8

This day during Holy Week Jesus gives what is called, The Olivet Discourse.

In His masterful teaching, Jesus speaks about the signs of His coming and the end of the age. He foretells of wars, famines, and earthquakes. Jesus also mentions something all too familiar to us today: pestilence.

Jesus then gives these wonderfully comforting words: “See that you are not troubled.”

During this time of great pestilence, remember Christ‘s wise words: be not troubled. Trust in Him!

This day can be found at: Matthew 21:23–24:51, Mark 11:20–13:37, Luke 20:1–21:36, and John 12:20–38.

COVID-19 Is No Respecter of Persons

Beloved, one thing to on which to reflect: this virus shows no partiality. It is no respecter of persons. It does not play favorites. It comes for the young and old alike. It doesn’t care the color of skin. It doesn’t look at one’s bank account.

We are all in this together.

In like manner, the Gospel is for all of us.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” – Gal. 3:28

Have a safe and blessed day!

Do Not Worry About Tomorrow

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.”  – Matt. 6:34

Trials have a clarifying quality. Distractions get washed away and the truly important things remain.

Your relationship with Jesus.

Your family.

Your health.

The Lord instructs is not to worry about what tomorrow might bring and thereby sacrifice the present moment. It’s been rightly said not to pull tomorrow’s clouds over today’s sunshine.

Put your trust and faith in Jesus Christ today and let Him take care of tomorrow.

Clarifying Quality

Beloved, trials have a clarifying quality; what’s really important is revealed. During this time of self-imposed isolation for the greater good, we have been reminded of the things which carry real truth and which have real meaning:

Your relationship with Jesus.

Your family.

Your health.

All the other distractions have been washed away. What is left but Jesus?

As you reflect in prayer today, thank God for clarifying “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy,” – Phil. 4:8

Invitation During COVID-19

Every Sunday, at this time, I am giving an INVITATION.

It is more important NOW than ever:

Do you know Jesus Christ, my Savior?

Have you surrendered your idol factory of a heart to Him?

If you were die today, do you know where you will spend eternity?

It is only through Jesus that Man can be saved.

I beseech you today, heed His call: believe in Him and receive everlasting life.

Yours in Christ,

– Pastor Patrick

Exiled at Home: COVID-19 Quarantine

“Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.” – 1 Pet. 1:1-2

Look, I know this is weird. We are all feeling it. The last place we want to be on Sunday is at home. We love Christ’s bride. We love our church. But the church is more than a building; it’s the people.

Right now we are “exiled,” as it were. During this time, I stand with Peter and pray grace to you and peace be multiplied!

Yours in Christ,

– Pastor Patrick

Do Your Part: STAY INSIDE

Come, my people, enter your chambers,
And shut your doors behind you; Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, Until the indignation is past.” – Isa. 26:20

The Coronavirus is nothing compared to the Angel of Death appointed by God at the Passover, but the mandate is similar: stay inside for a time.

I am praying for you. I know these are unprecedented times and we are all in unknown territory.

Make the safest decision for your family.
Do not panic. Place your trust firmly in God for He is, was, and will always be in absolute and total control.

Please do your part: STAY INSIDE.

Men, Lead Your Family

Beloved, stay calm. God is sovereign. We do not live in fear, but are more than conquerors through Christ.

This Sunday will be unprecedented. I will not be there, but the door will be unlocked.

We are all doing our part to help our neighbor by (ironically) staying away from them.

In the meanwhile, I expect husbands and fathers to continue to lead their families.

Here is my plan for tomorrow’s Sabbath:

Everyone is to read 1 John 1.

Then have a discussion with your family. Throughout the week we will study together online.

Make the most of this opportunity to worship Jesus and praise God.

In a couple of weeks, we will be back to normal.

I am here for any need you may have.

Yours in Christ,

– Pastor Patrick

Be Wise In What Is Good, And Simple Concerning Evil

“For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.” – Rom. 16:19

Be wise in what is good; know that well, live it and teach it.

Be simple concerning evil; keep from it, expose it, and do not learn it.

Love good, hate evil. Do not contaminate yourself with wickedness – this is true liberty. This is real freedom.

Imagine a society that held to these two short, simple mandates. Imagine what that might look like.

Enriched In Everything By Him

“that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge,” – 1 Cor. 1:5
Everything is enriched by Jesus.

Everything is improved, enhanced, upgraded, sweetened, and adorned by the Son of Man.

Without Him, everything is dulled, decreased, reduced, and lessened.

Do you know Him?
