From Childhood You Have Known the Holy Scriptures

and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Tim. 3:15

Timothy had been taught the Scriptures from childhood (no doubt from Momma Eunice & Grandma Lois; 1:5) How important it is to teach our children the word of God to make them wise for salvation through faith in Jesus.

I Bow My Knees

“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,” – Eph. 3:14

To whom do you bow your knees?

Abundantly Satisfied With the Fullness of Your House

“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.” – Psa. 36:7-8

Some verses just sing.

How precious is God’s kindness. When we put our trust in Him, God exceeds our wildest expectations – not with earthly health and wealth, but – with the fullness of His house.

That’s verses 7-8. The icing on the cake is verse 9: “For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.”

He is the source, not us or our circumstances or our feelings. Because of Him we see the world as it truly is.

Like I said: Sings.

Be Wise In What Is Good, And Simple Concerning Evil

“For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.” – Rom. 16:19

Be wise in what is good; know that well, live it and teach it.

Be simple concerning evil; keep from it, expose it, and do not learn it.

Love good, hate evil. Do not contaminate yourself with wickedness – this is true liberty. This is real freedom.

Imagine a society that held to these two short, simple mandates. Imagine what that might look like.

God, Alone Wise

“to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.” Rom. 16:27

Why is it that Man flips this natural divine order: Man, alone is wise. Man, alone gets the glory?

No.

God, alone is wise.

God, alone gets the glory.

It is all God, from start to finish, through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Enriched In Everything By Him

“that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge,” – 1 Cor. 1:5
Everything is enriched by Jesus.

Everything is improved, enhanced, upgraded, sweetened, and adorned by the Son of Man.

Without Him, everything is dulled, decreased, reduced, and lessened.

Do you know Him?

All Godly Will Suffer

“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” – 2 Tim. 3:12

This is not an isolated concept found in just one verse.

Also note: Rom. 8:16-18; Eph. 5:11-12; Phil. 1:29; 2 Thes. 1:5; 2 Tim. 2:3; Heb. 13:12-13; 1 Peter 2:19-21; 1 John 3:13; 1 John 3:16-18; Rev. 2:10

C. S. Lewis’s “Shocking Alternative”

Atheist-turned-Apologist, C.S. Lewis’s brilliant answer for why evil exists. If you don’t have time for the whole thing, at least skip to 11:40 for his famous “Trilemma.”

Keep It Simple

I like things simple. Simple life. Simple truth:

  • light/dark
  • truth/lie
  • freedom/bondage.
  • “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, Than great treasure with trouble.” – Prov. 15:16

    KISS: Keep It Simple, Silly.

    Read John.

Keeping Up With the Digital Joneses

Coming away from your device, do you feel better or worse? Keeping up with the digital Joneses, do you feel superior or inferior? It’s hard work, isn’t it? Pretending that everything is perfect.

Read most comment sections and you can see that our society is bending towards overt negativity. This should not surprise anyone who realizes we are nearing the end. The devil is gaining more and more territory. Take a peek at 2 Tim. 3:1-5 and see if anything sounds familiar.

The anonymity of the internet gives us all the false courage to show our true natures and they have proven to be quite snarky. I am generalizing, but you know what I mean.

What is the opposite of a rose? Dirt? I am just as guilty of viewing the world through dirt-colored glasses. Doesn’t seem very Christlike. I don’t suspect Jesus was much like that.

And it’s not the me He wants me to be.

There is only one solution: We’re all in the same sinking boat, we’re all in dire need of rescue, and there is only One with the power to save.

“For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,” – 1 Thes. 5:9

Only through faith in Jesus will we bend away from ourselves. Repent of your sins and turn towards your Heavenly Father. Then those glasses can be rose-colored because there is hope!
