“Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.” – 1 Thes. 4:1-2
Abound more and more.
“For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, And the wine is red; It is fully mixed, and He pours it out; Surely its dregs shall all the wicked of the earth Drain and drink down.” – Psa. 75:8
The righteous judgement of God; dregs shall all the wicked drain and drink down.
“But God is the Judge:
He puts down one,
And exalts another.” – Psa. 75:7
God is the Judge.
“Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.” – Psa. 75:1b
The Lord is near.
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”- Matt. 25:21
The ultimate compliment. The only praise worth hearing.
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: ‘God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.’” – James 4:6
God resists the proud.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.” – Psa. 23:1-3
He makes, leads, and restores.
“To this man will I look–even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My Word.” – Isa. 66:2
Reverence to God.
“Like as a father pities His children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him!” – Psa. 103:13
When we speak of godly fear, we mean that spirit which Jehovah is pledged to bless.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Prov. 9:10
Wisdom starts at the fear of God.
