Having Nothing, Yet Possessing All Things

“Having nothing, and yet possessing all things.” 2 Cor. 6:10

This is a riddle the world cannot understand. – Thomas Brooks

This is also a chapter that flies in the face of the word faith and prosperity false gospel.

2 Cor. 6 has the subtitle, “Marks of the Ministry.” Here’s what it lists: Tribulations, needs, distresses, stripes, imprisonments, tumults, labors, sleeplessness; Paul says it is dying, being chastened, sorrowful, and poor.

Compare these with any of what is offered in the word faith and prosperity false gospel.

What Pigs Do You Value Above The Lord?

“When they saw Jesus, they pleaded with Him to leave,” – Matt. 8:34

A
FOOL will prefer things before Jesus.

Health, wealth, and prosperity are the EXACT things Satan offered Jesus in the wilderness – and He ignored them.

“They prefer their swine before their Savior!” – Thomas Brooks

They would rather lose their souls, than that Jesus would drown their pigs. What pigs do you value above the Lord?

They PLEADED with Jesus to LEAVE their region.

Christ’s departure is the WORST outcome possible; yet foolish men will plead for it.

Those Who Have a Broken Heart

The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry.

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.” – Psa. 34:15, 18

If you are contrite in spirit and have a broken heart, the Lord has never been closer to you.

You defend them; You will surround him as with a shield

“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” – Psa. 5:11-12

God defends those who put their trust in Him; He surrounds them like a shield.

We Are to God the Fragrance of Christ

For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,” – 2 Cor. 2:15

What aroma do we have in the world; that of Christ or that of something else?

Leaders Of This People Cause Them To Err

For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.” – Isa. 9:16

Discern carefully whom you follow.

We do not follow fallible men for the best of Men are men at best.

We follow the Son of Man; Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Feet Like Deer’s Feet

A Hymn of Faith

17 Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.

The end of Habakkuk (3:17-19) is presented as a hymn of faith.

Even though Israel would be taken and things which were once so dependable would now fail, Habakkuk says he will trust in God.

God will supply the strength needed. God will make our feet as stable a deer’s (Psa. 18:33). God will make me walk on my high hills.

He says, “I will joy in the God of my salvation.”

True joy only comes in knowing God and the salvation that only He provides.

Do you know Him?

He Shall Save His People From Their Sins

And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.” – Archangel Gabriel (Matt. 1:21)

Jesus came to save His people from their sins (plural).

He shall save His people. That is a promise.

When He said, “It is finished,” that’s what He meant; mission accomplished, over and done.

There Is None Else

Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD He is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.” – Deut. 4:39

Talk about getting “put in your place.”

Know in your mind and consider in your heart: YHWH is the First Cause, the one Infinite Being, the one Omnipotent Power.

The first and the last. There is none else.

The Voice Of My Weeping

the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.” – Psa. 6:8b

No tear goes unheard with our Lord.

Our weeping speaks to Him.

He listens to each sob.

“Tears have a voice!” – Samuel Davies
