That is a command. Jesus didn’t say pick or choose; He said You must enter the one and reject the other.
To enter the wide gate is to disobey Jesus’s command.

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit,” – Jesus (John 15:16)
Jesus chooses us (Gr. = “to select by a highly deliberate choice with a definite outcome; as with the destination of divine selection for salvation”)…
and appoints us (Gr. = “put, place, lay, set, fix, establish“)…
to go (Gr. = “to lead away under someone’s authority“)…
and bear fruit.
“For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being, but to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.” – God (Isa. 66:2)
God made all things. He takes special note of those with humility, with a repentant attitude, and one who fears His word.
“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling places of the Most High.” – Psa. 46:4

“Ye know not what ye ask.” – Jesus (Matt. 20:22)
Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith folk say ask in faith and God is obligated to give. Your faith activates Him.
That’s not what happened with Salome; She asked Jesus for something. This was His response: No.
“Surely there is a reward for the righteous,” – Psa. 58:11
God rewards, not because we deserve it, but because He has promised it.
“And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us LESS than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this:” – Ezra 9:13 (Emphasis Mine.)
Our mercies are MORE than we deserve and our punishments LESS.
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You.” – Psa. 89:14
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of God’s throne and rule.
God lives on justice.
He loves righteousness (Psa. 45:7).
“Touching the Almighty, we cannot find Him out: He is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: He will not afflict.” – Job 37:23
Just and right is He. God is perfect in power, judgement, and justice.
“For This says the Lord God: ‘Behold I, I myself will search for my sheep and I will seek them out.'” – Ezekiel. 34:11
Must mean free will.
