“there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.” – Col. 3:11
Who were the Scythians?
Barbarians (ignorant and uncultured) were bad enough, but Scythians were the rudest of barbarians (Lightfoot). They were ruthless and cutthroat mercenaries known as “the horse people.”
To the Jew, Greeks were bad, barbarians were worse, and Scythians were the worst of the worst.
The shock of Paul’s statement is lost on us.
I suppose it would be like saying:
“Nazis can come to Jesus, even Hitler himself, for Christ is all and in all.”
