“Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.” -Luke 2:20
Think about that: here you have these common shepherds just out doing what shepherds do, when an angel shows up. Then they receive this sky-filling, angel-choir-singing heavenly spectacle. So they go to Bethlehem and see the incarnate Son of God as a baby.
Then… they go home. They go back to shepherding. Back to the daily grind. The sheep are not going to shepherd themselves, you know.
When we meet with God (through His Word and prayer), it can be as life-changing and awe-inspiring as that heavenly host display out there in the desert, but then… we have to get back to work.
But, it says the shepherds returned “glorifying and praising God.” That’s where it is: you carry that joy with you. You tell others about it.
