Unprofitable Servants

“Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ” – Luke 17:9-10

Jesus is not saying that our service has no value. He’s saying that we can’t earn any “extra credit.” A Spirit of entitlement should be completely foreign to believers – especially those who understand just how utterly fallen Man is and just how utterly sovereign God is.
