Shouting Down the Truth

“He could not ascertain the truth because of the tumult” – Acts 21:34

The world will do that to the truth: shout it down and drown it out.

The mob had created such chaos over their animosity to the truth of Paul’s Gospel that the commander of the garrison in Jerusalem could not figure out what was even going on.

When the commander finally does settle the mob down, he makes the false assumption that Paul was an Egyptian leader of four thousand assassins (21:38). This, of course, is not even close to the truth.

Defiance against the Gospel leads to chaos which leads to confusion.

Our True Self Is Found In Christ

“There is no deep knowing of God without a deep knowing of self and no deep knowing of self without a deep knowing of God.” – John Calvin.

Thomas a Kempis said “a humble self-knowledge is a surer way to God than a search after deep learning.”

Augustine prayed “Grant, Lord, that I may know myself that I may know Thee.”

Thomas Merton wrote “There is only one problem on which all my experience, my peace, and my happiness depend: to discover myself in discovering God. If I find Him I find myself and if I find my true self, I will find Him.”

“You are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Cor. 12:27

“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” – Gal. 3:27-28

Rivers of Living Water

“He who believes in Me, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” – Jesus (John 7:38)

What had previously came out of our unregenerate old heart of stone? “evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders” (Matt. 15:19)
What comes out of a regenerated new heart of flesh? Not just water, but living water and not just living water, but RIVERS of living water: a never ending resplendent flow of life giving & producing water.

Mighty Works Are Performed By His Hands

“And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!” – Mark 6:2

• Jesus taught and they were astonished.

– Where did He learn these things?

– What wisdom is this?

• Jesus performed mighty works by His hands.

– How could He do this?

– What does this mean?

Simple: Jesus is the Son of God; our Savior; the Messiah!

And mighty works are STILL performed by His hands!
