“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” – Acts 20:28
“Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” – 2 Tim. 3:12
This is not an isolated concept found in just one verse.
Also note: Rom. 8:16-18; Eph. 5:11-12; Phil. 1:29; 2 Thes. 1:5; 2 Tim. 2:3; Heb. 13:12-13; 1 Peter 2:19-21; 1 John 3:13; 1 John 3:16-18; Rev. 2:10
We all stumble in many things. – James 3:2
Might be the truest statement in the Bible.
“But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him.” – John 12:37
Jesus did MANY SIGNS right in front of them.
They had no excuse not to believe in Him.
Jesus still does MANY SIGNS right in front of us.
We have no excuse not to believe in Him.
“Visit many good books, but live in the Bible.” – C.H. Spurgeon
The Bible is primary.
Everything else is secondary.
Move into it and never leave.
Vacation other places, but your true home is God’s Word.
There’s no place like home!
“You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.” – Heb. 2:8
He left nothing that is not put under him.
Jesus is over everything.
Jesus is over every thing.
Nothing is not under Him.
“For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” – Heb. 2:16-18
He runs to the rescue!
He quickly responds to an urgent need of intense distress!
He saves you!
There is NONE OTHER more loving, capable, or willing.
Jesus is able to aid.
“Remember Lot’s wife.” – Luke 17:32
Three simple, sobering words.
Lot’s wife literally became the monument of an unbelieving soul. (Wisdom of Solomon 10:7)
She was warned not to look back. Her disobedience to that simple command showed her true heart and was consequently, fatal.
I am reminded of Jesus’s words in Luke 9:62,
“No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
“The human heart is a factory of idols.” – John Calvin
We tend to think of idols as little wooden gods or golden shrines, but that is not really what Calvin is talking about.
An idol is anything that takes the place of God in your life.
Chuck Lawless writes about some idols that you may not have considered were even capable of being idols. Such as: bitternness, fame, unforgiveness, relationships, position, lust, worry, pain, social media, info, control, and your ministry.
Wow! Talk about convicting.
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
1 Timothy 1:15
No other verse so closely matches my life.
Thank Fox for His Son!
